National Association of Home Inspectors, Inc.

The National Association of Home Inspectors, Inc. (NAHI) was established in 1987 as a nonprofit association to promote and develop the home inspection industry. The mission of the National Association of Home Inspectors is to promote excellence and professionalism in the Home Inspection industry; to provide a standards of practice and a code of ethics; to educate its members; and to inform the public of the benefits and scope of a professional home inspection. NAHI now has over 2300 members in 49 U.S. states and Canada.

The NAHI CRI “Certified Residential Inspector” designation is the highest out of the three levels an inspector can achieve. NAHI CRI membership is bestowed upon home inspectors who demonstrate their knowledge of, and proficiency at, all aspects of home inspection. The NAHI CRI is received only after an individual has conducted 250 inspections, has passed the extensive required examination, and met all requirements set forth by the Board of Directors. The NAHI CRI membership level requires recertification on an annual basis. All NAHI CRI Members must complete sixteen (16) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) per year. Sixteen CEUs is equal to 16 hours of classroom study. Currently less than 10% of NAHI’s home inspectors are registered as a CRI.
